composer, Michelangelo Lupone
His activity is characterized by the inter-disciplinary approach pointing at an artistic research of integrated forms of art, combining the innovations of the musical language with the scientific way of thinking. He writes music for solo, ensemble, orchestra with electronics. To create new works, he has conceived innovative digital systems for real time performances Fly10 (1983) and Fly30 (1989), as well as “augmented” musical instruments ( Feed-Drum, SkinAct, Wind-Back). The collaboration with artists of the visual and choreographers as Momo, Pistoletto, Uecker, Moricone, Galizia, Paladino, has traced an artistic path more and more aimed at an integrated use of the listening environment which has given birth to great temporary and permanent musical installations based on invented technologies: Sonorous tubes, Planephones, Holophones, Reflecting screens. He received awards from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Budapest, from the Japan Foundation, from MIUR and the French Ministry of Culture; he has also had special consulting commissions from Texas Instruments and Centro Ricerche Fiat as well as from leading music institutions (including Tanzhaus Dusseldorf, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Regio Parma, Kyoto Philarmonic Orchestra, INA-GRM, Festival Aujourd’hui Musique, GRAME). In 2004 he received a commission from the Superintendency of the Archaeological Heritage of Pompei to realize an interactive (permanent) art sound installation in the excavations of the Grand Gymnasium and in 2014 he received a commission from the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna of Rome to realize an interactive-adaptive (permanent) music installation for the fountains of the Museum. Co-founder of CRM - Centro Ricerche Musicali of Rome – he is a teacher and director of the Dipartimento di Musica e Nuove tecnologie at S. Cecilia Conservatory in Rome.
