harp, Emmanuel Ceysson
Having distinguished himself in the category "New discoveries - solo instrumentalists" at the "Victoires de la Musique Classique" in 2010 and winner in 2011 of an Encouragement Prize at the Academy of Fine Arts of the Institute of France (Simone Del Duca Foundation), Emmanuel Ceysson is the first harpist to have won three of the major international competitions open to his instrument, including the First Prize at the prestigious ARD Competition in Munich in September 2009. He had already won First Prize and six special prizes at the Young Concert Artist Auditions in New York in 2006, and in 2004 he received a gold medal at the Sixth International Competition for Harp in Bloomington (Indiana), as well as a special prize for the best performance of Debussy's Danse Sacrée et Danse Profane. Since 2005, Ceysson has pursued a parallel career as a soloist, performing solo recitals of chamber music in major international concert halls, such as the Wigmore Hall, the Salle Gaveau, Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Konzerthaus in Vienna. In the concert repertoire, he plays with orchestras such as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester and the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Lawrence Renes, John Fiore, and David Cho. In April 2009, accompanied by the Orchestra of St Luke conducted by Giancarlo Guerrero, Ceysson performed Reinhold Glière's Op.74 Concert at the Alice Tully Hall at the Lincoln Center in New York, for which he received enthusiastic acclaim from the US specialist press. He considers it very important to use his teaching skills to serve programmes designed to introduce young people from disadvantaged social backgrounds to his profession and his instrument, particularly under the '10 months of school and work' programme. Therefore, since 2007, every year in Colombia he has been conducting free specialization courses, with the support of the French Embassy and the Salvi Foundation.
