Joachim was born 1988 in Bergen, Norway and studied with the renowned Czech professor Jiri Hlinka at Barratt Dues Institute of Music in Oslo and in later years with professor Eldar Nebolsin at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin, where he  took his Masters Degree  with the highest possible distinction in 2016. 
In October 2014, he won both the 1° Prize, the Audience Award as well as Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra’s Prize at the 14° International Edvard Grieg Piano Competition in Norway, as well as an orchestra recording award from Naxos. In April 2015 Carr was awarded Norway’s high-ranking Robert Levin Prize. At the prestigious 25. Concours Clara Haskil in Vevey, 2013, he was awarded the Coup de Coeur Special Prize for his recital. With his violin partner Diana Tishchenko, he won the 1° Prize at the 10° Concours International de Musique de Chambre de Lyon in 2014. In 2013 he received the Boris Pergamenschikow Preis for contemporary chamber music in Berlin, with his piano trio - Trio Korngold.
At the closing concert of Bergen International Festival 2017, Carr is joining an impressive list of world famed pianists having performed the festivals iconic signature work, Edvard Griegs pianoconcerto, since the festival started in 1953.
Lots of people can play the piano well, but here’s someone with something to say about the music, whose narration holds your interest. He’s a musician we are going to hear a lot from in the future. (Martin Anderson)
