UNTREF Quartet
The creation of the UNTREF String Quartet (Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero, Argentina), dedicated to the interpretation of contemporary music, is an event of relevance for the musical life of Argentina, since until then there was no chamber ensemble of this type specialized in the repertoire written between the second half of the twentieth century and the early years of the twenty-first century. The selection of candidates was made through a competition in June 2011, with a jury presided over by British violinist Irvine Arditti and Venezuelan violinist David Núñez, in his capacity as conductor and first violin of the Quartet. Following the selection process, Carlos Brítez (second violin), Mariano Malamud (viola) and Martín Devoto (cello) were chosen.
Since its creation, it has developed an intense musical activity, performing in important halls in the country and abroad, among which the Experimentation Centre of the Teatro Colón, the National Music Centre, the Auditorium and the Museum of the National University of Tres de Febrero. The Quartet has performed with internationally renowned musicians such as Ian Pace and Garth Knox. The Quartet, in addition to its concert activity, is also involved in the academic activity connected with the Degree programme in Music at UNTREF.
