viola, Alfredo Zamarra
Alfredo Zamarra is undoubtedly one of the most appreciated and requested violists currently in Italy. After brilliantly completing his studies at the Conservatori di Piacenza with Claudio Pavolini, the artist was able to expand and deepen his instrumental training following the advice and teachings of Fedor Druzinin, Alexander Lonquich, Piero Farulli and Bruno Giuranna, who considers him one of the most fervent musicians of his generation, with an excellent instrumental technique and a lucid musical sensitivity. In the 1995-96 season he was invited by the Gustav Mahler Orchestra as a first part, playing with Claudio Abbado and Bernard Haitink; he played the same role in the Italian Chamber Orchestra at the invitation of Salvatore Accardo. He is currently the first viola of the Orchestra del Teatro La Fenice in Venice. He has played under the direction of Jeffrey Tate Strauss' Don Quixote receiving excellent critiques. In addition to the activity of first viola, he has an intense solo and chamber activity with the best Italian string instrumentalists: Massimo Quarta, Uto Ughi, Franco Petracchi, Rocco Filippini, Mario Brunello, Salvatore Accardo. He is often invited to chamber music festivals in Germany, England and the United States playing among others with Ani Kavafian, Carter Brey, Soovin Kim, Cynthia Phelps, Ilya Grubert. He has made several recordings for Rai International, for Vatican Radio, and recorded for Stradivarius, Real Music and Brilliant Classic labels.
