director de escena, Damiano Michieletto
Born in Venice, Damiano Michieletto made his international debut at the Wexford Opera Festival in 2003 with a highly-acclaimed production of Weinberger’s Svanda Dudák, named Opera Production of the Year by the Irish Times. In the intervening decade Mr. Michieletto has become one of the most interesting young directors in Europe, North America and Asia. Prior to the start of the 2013-14 season, Mr. Michieletto made his La Scala debut with a thought-provoking production of Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera and, thereafter, returned to the 2013 Salzburg Festival for a highly successful production of Verdi’s Falstaff. Highlights of the 2013-14 season include a new production of Mozart’s Idomeneo at Vienna’s Theater an der Wien; Donizetti’s Elisir in Madrid; Handel’s Alcina in Florence; a co-production of Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress in Leipzig and Venice; and a return to 2014 Salzburg Festival for Rossini’s La Cenerentola with Cecilia Bartoli. During the first part of summer 2014 Mr. Michieletto will bring Wagner’s Lohengrin to Italy’s Martina Franca Festival. Thereafter he travels to Tokyo with the Vienna Idomeneo. Future plans include Wagner’s Ring at the Theater an der Wien, Rossini’s Guillaume Tell in London, Martinu’s Greek Passion in San Francisco and Saint-Säens Samson et Dalila in Paris. Major debuts on the horizon will find Mr. Michieletto at the Metropolitan Opera, the Vienna State Opera and the Santa Fe Opera. Recent DVD releases include La boheme, Jackie O, La Scala di seta and La Gazza Ladra.
