mezzosoprano, Veronica Simeoni
Veronica Simeoni was born in Rome. After having completed the cycle of classical studies, she graduated in singing at the Conservatory of Adria, continuing her musical training under the guidance of Raina Kabaivanska at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, at the Istituto Vecchi-Tonelli in Modena and at the State University of Sofia. After her debut with the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale in Spoleto with Trovatore and Oberto Conte di San Bonifacio, she immediately played Charlotte del Werther by Massenet at the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele in Messina, Rossini's Stabat Mater alla Scala with R. Chailly and Jocasta by Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex in Trieste directed by Giorgio Pressburger. She sang in Verdi's Requiem in St. Petersburg conducted by Y. Temirkanov, then in Valencia, in Florence directed by D. Gatti and in Bologna under the direction of M. Mariotti; a role she has recently played in stage form at the Zurich Opernhaus directed by F. Luisi. Her interest in vocal chamber music is remarkable: her repertoire, in addition to the lyrics of Berlioz, Debussy and Fauré, highlights masterpieces such as Wesendonck-Lieder by Wagner, Wunderhorn-Lieder by Mahler and the Six Lyrics on a text by Marina Cvetaeva by Šostakovič.
